Durham Co. unemployment rate dropped in May

The Durham County unemployment rate fell by .2 percent between April and May, the N.C. Department of Commerce reported Wednesday.May’s rate is 1.1 percent lower than it was a year ago, and the county had the 11th lowest rate in the state with 6,678 unemployed out of a 159,847-person labor force.

Durham's population has increased 12.8% since 2010

In a recent report, UNC’s Carolina Population Center released the state's fastest growing cities. Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Cary and Greensboro (in order) were the five cities with the highest population increases between 2010-2015. Durham has the third largest population increase gaining 29,218, 12.8% total population in the five years.

RDU released record traveler numbers for May 2016

RDU reported their highest ever number of enplanements for the month of May 2016. More than 500,000 travelers boarded commercial flights in May 2016, a 15.3 percent growth over May 2015.May was also the airport’s 27th consecutive month of year-over-year growth. And, Airline Weekly this week named RDU the 10th fastest growing airport in the U.S.

RDU reports increased daily departures in March

RDU reported an average daily departure count increase of nearly 8 percent for the month of March. Daily departures increased to 191, a 7.8 percent uptick from the 177 reported in March of 2015, according to the latest report on year-over-year figures.

New home construction to increase dramatically throughout the triangle

Triangle Home builders are up 17 percent production in 2016 compared to this time in 2015. Durham County permits for new single family homes are up 36 percent in the first quarter with 448 building permits issued.

2015 was a success for American Underground and our economy

2015 was a successful year for The American Underground Companies. Triangle locations created more than 400 jobs, generated 40 percent more investment capital than a year earlier, and helped drive diversity with 30 percent of its tenants run by women and 22 percent led by minorities. Both figures are far above national averages.

Durham County unemployment rates decrease

The Department of Commerce recently reported  Durham County’s unemployment rate fell from 5.5 percent to 4.8 percent between August and September.

Triangle jobs increased in August

The Triangle experienced a total increase of 10,000 jobs in August. The Durham/Chapel Hill metro added 5,700 jobs while Raleigh/ Cary metro added 4,000.

Durham's Spoonflower to expand, create new jobs

After a $25 million equity infusion Spoonflower, a custom fabric maker, will expand creating 50 new jobs in Durham.
