Duke Hospitals Receive Top Scores for Hospital Safety

Duke University Hospital and Duke Regional Hospital have been awarded “A” scores for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.

Duke University Hospital to Renovate Duke North

Duke University Hospital will renovate Duke North, a more than 30-year-old hospital. The project includes fully renovating nine operating rooms and providing minor upgrades to two additional operating rooms, as well as renovating the 16-bed cardiac critical care unit on the seventh floor. The hospital’s electrical, plumbing, fire alarm and HVAC systems will be upgraded to meet current building codes and standards. The entire project is expected to be completed August of 2015 and cost a total of $48.4 million.

Kevin Sowers, president of Duke University Hospital, made Becker’s Hospital Review list of 100 Leaders of Great Hospitals in America. Becker’s Hospital Review puts out annual rankings and top lists for various hospital metrics, this latest one being for executives of top hospitals.
