Local chefs and restaurants names semi-finalist for James Beard Foundation awards

Phoebe Lawless of Scratch Bakery and Matt Kelly of Mateo Tapas have been named semi-finalist for the annual James Beard Foundation awards.

Mothers and Sons, which is set to open downtown this fall at 107 W. Chapel Hill St. The restaurant will be adjacent to Mateo.

Downtown Durham's newest tapas bar Mateo will officially open at 6 p.m. today at 109 W. Chapel Hill St.
