School board chair to seek commissioner’s seat

Durham school board Chairwoman Heidi Carter,who was first elected to the Consolidated District B seat in 2004, will seek election to the Durham County Board of Commissioners in 2016.

Talk of the Town Recognized by Durham County Commissioners


Talk of the Town, the 21-year-old restaurant and nightclub at 108 E. Main Street was recently was recognized by the Durham County Board of Commissioners for its contributions to the downtown social scene. Owned by Sam and Audrey Sellars, TOTT is an intimate place to play card games, listen to live music or poetry and enjoy great soul food.

Durham’s Whitted School Redevelopment Advances

The Durham County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to approve in concept a proposal to redevelop the James A. Whitted School for senior housing and as a Durham Public Schools pre-kindergarten center.

Chief Deputy Mike Andrews to Succeed Hill as Sheriff

Chief Deputy Mike Andrews has been named the successor to Sheriff Worth Hill who will retire at the start of 2012. Andrews is a three-decade veteran of the Durham Country Sheriff's Office; he was unanimously voted into the Sheriff role by the Durham County Commissioners.

- Area Mental Health Board -- Amir Berhannu and Philip Golden.
- Audit Oversight Committee -- William Pierce, Manuel L. Rojas and Sid Stroupe.
- Citizens Advisory Committee -- Da'Neen Weeks.
- Criminal Justice Partnership Act Advisory Board -- Nina Bullock.
- Industrial Facilities Pollution Control Financing Authority -- Edward F. Connor and Charles H. Darvin.
- Raleigh-Durham Airport Noise Abatement Committee -- Miles Simpson.
