Durham EMS Director to Retire

Michael W. Smith, Durham County’s Emergency Medical Service director, recently announced plans to retire effective June 30 after 37 years with the department.

Durham 911 Center Receives International Re-Accreditation

The Durham Emergency Communication Center has been re-accredited for the third time as an Emergency Medical Dispatch Center of Excellence, the highest distinction awarded by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch (NAED). The Durham Emergency Communications Center is dedicated to promoting, preserving, and protecting the safety and security of all residents and visitors in Durham. The center provides 24-hour, seven-day-a-week 911 access to residents, visitors, and user agencies in and around Durham County.
