Elaine A. Heath, a theologian, preacher, teacher, writer, and current McCreless Professor of Evangelism at Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, will be the next dean of the Duke Divinity School.

Duke University trustee Jack Bovender and his wife, Barbara, have established a bequest of $1.5 million to endow an Anglican Episcopal professorship at the Duke Divinity School.

Richard Hays Named as New Dean of Duke Divinity School

Richard Hays, George Washington Ivey Professor of New Testament, has been selected as dean of the Duke Divinity School. Hays has served as the interim dean since former Dean Gregory Jones stepped down in August 2010. Hays first came to the Divinity School as a professor in 1991.

The Englewood Review of Books has selected Food and Faith: A Theology of Eating written by Norman Wirzba, research professor of theology, ecology, and rural life at Duke Divinity School, as the 2011 “Book of the Year.”

Duke Divinity Professor Wins Book Award

Willie Jennings, associate professor of theology and black church studies at Duke Divinity School, has been selected to receive the Award for Excellence in the Study of Religion from the American Academy of Religion for his book, The Christian Imagination: Theology and the Origins of Race (Yale University Press, 2010).
