Duke Health Performs First Hand Transplant in State

A 54-year-old man, is the recipient of Duke Hospital’s first hand transplant.The 12-hour procedure was performed May 27, 2016, by a team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, operating room staff and technicians, and was led by Linda Cendales, M.D., associate professor of surgery at Duke University School of Medicine and director of Duke’s hand transplant program. Duke is one of just 10 hospitals in the United States that has performed a hand transplant.

Duke Health sets up insurance system for Triangle firms

Duke University Health System and Coventry Health Care of the Carolinas said Thursday that they have formed a health benefit plan for Triangle employers. The Carelink-Duke Medical Home plan, available in Durham, Alamance, Orange, Granville, Person, Vance, and Wake counties, will include Duke's nine affiliated hospitals, more than 250 primary care and more than 650 specialty care practice locations.
