New Duke Scholarship Program to Benefit NC School of Science and Mathematics
A new $1 million scholarship program at Duke University will benefit graduates of the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics. The scholarship fund was created with a $1 million gift from Sean Fahey, a graduate of both schools and co-founder of Claren Road Asset Management, an $8.5 billion credit hedge fund manager.

Durham Student to Compete in National Science Competition
Parth Thakker, a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, was selected from 1,800 students to be among the 40 finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search. He will compete for $630,000 in awards from the Intel Foundation, in Washington, D.C., March 6-12.

Obama Honors Three NCSSM Students at White House Science Fair
Ada Taylor, Katrina Gutierrez and Greeshma Somashekar – all seniors at NCSSM – were recognized by President Obama at the White House Science Fair for their 2011 grand prize in the cyber-security category at the Conrad Foundation’s annual Spirit of Innovation Summit. Their potentially life saving product, MedPAL, works with a Bluetooth-enabled heart monitor to relay GPS coordinates to an emergency call center in the event of a cardiac irregularity. The product also notifies personal emergency contacts.

Durham High Schools Make Newsweek List of America's Best High Schools
The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and Durham School of the Arts ranked numbers 66 and 381 respectively on Newsweek's list of America's Best High Schools.
