DSA Student Wins Pauli Murray Project's Youth Prophecy Poetry Contest

Durham School of the Arts student Bethanie Robie won first place in the Pauli Murray Project's Youth Prophecy Poetry contest in the 13-25 year old category with her poem "Equality." The Youth Prophecy Poetry Contest is an initiative of the Pauli Murray Project to introduce youth to Durham’s important legacy of civil and human rights activism and to Pauli Murray, one of our prominent homegrown activists and poets.

Durham School of the Arts Wins D'Addario Music Foundation Grant

The Durham School of the Arts has received a $2,500 grant from The D’Addario Music Foundation to restring and tune instruments for the school’s music programs. The grant will provide guitar, violin, viola, cello and double bass strings as well as other tuning and instrument care accessories that teachers and students use to maintain high-quality sounding instruments in the Guitar and Strings program.

DSA Student Selected for Prestigious Grammy Camp

Durham School of the Arts rising senior Mary Weitz has been selected to be one of just 35 high schoolers to participate in the first-ever New York City Grammy Camp. The Grammy Foundation's highly selective camp gives participants access to music industry heavyweights and experience with the entire creative process of making music.

DSA Student Named Winner of Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year

Durham School of the Arts student, Theresa Meyer, has been chosen as one of the 25 winners of the Milk Processor Education Program's Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year. Picked from over 40,000 applicants, Meyer will receive a $7,500 scholarship and an opportunity to appear in the June 2011 edition of USA Today.

Durham High Schools Make Newsweek List of America's Best High Schools

The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and Durham School of the Arts ranked numbers 66 and 381 respectively on Newsweek's list of America's Best High Schools.
