Black Wall Street Investments launches out of RTP

Black Wall Street Investments, a new crowdfunding investment firm aimed at supporting and investing in minority entrepreneurs and technology startups, has launched out of Research Triangle Park’s co-working space The Frontier. The firm has two funds: a $25 million micro-equity fund and a $5 million “tech disrupt” fund that will focus on mid to late stage tech startups. The firm's founder Chris Shella explained; "Black Wall Street Investments is not just for tech entrepreneurs but entrepreneurs across all sectors, including people in Durham, even if “you just want to start a bar or a restaurant.”

Incubator for entrepreneurial veterans launches at RTP

Bunker Labs, launched Tuesday at Research Triangle Park’s The Frontier. Bunker Labs has locations across the country to help existing veteran-owned technology startups grow, plans to capitalize on being in a state where nearly 10 percent of the population is comprised of veterans.

XRpro Sciences acquires Icagen assets

XRpro Sciences has acquired the assets of Icagen, a drug firm from parent company Pfizer. XRpro is paying Pfizer $500,000 up front for the Icagen name, technology and employees plus "earn outs" for as much as $10.5 million.

New Buildings Go Up in RTP

Liberty Property Trust, a Pennsylvania real estate investment trust, has broken ground on two speculative industrial and flex buildings at Liberty Ridge near Research Triangle Park. The buildings include a 58,500-square-foot building at 1951 T.W. Alexander Dr. and a 126,000-square-foot building at 1953 T.W. Alexander Dr.. Both buildings are expected to be completed in December and both will be LEED-certified.

Durham's RTP COO to retire at the end of 2015

Elizabeth Rooks, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Research Triangle Foundation, will retire after twenty-five years with the organization.

The Durham Courtyard Marriott at  1815 Front Street, a recently renovated 146-room select-service hotel in Durham has been sold to Lightstone REIT for $16 million.

RTP named winner of national STEM competition

The Research Triangle Park has been named grand prize winner of the US2020 competition and will have $1 million in funding for a mentorship and leadership program.
