Mechanics and Farmers Changing Name to M&F Bank

Mechanics and Farmers Bank, one of the nation's oldest and largest African-American-owned financial institutions, is rebranding itself as M&F Bank on June 2, although it will take 90 to 120 days to change the interior and exterior signage at its seven branches.

Durham-based M&F Reports Continued Profitability



The Durham-based parent company for Mechanics and Farmers Bank reported Friday that the bank continued its long history of profitability last year with earnings of about $104,000.

Walker, Debnam Honored with Mechanics & Farmers Bank Founders Award

Former NC Central University Dean and US Olympics Committee chairman, LeRoy T. Walker Sr. and longtime physician George C. Debnam were honored with the fourth annual Mechanics and Farmers Bank Founders Award. The annual award recognizes individuals or entities that embody its founding principles based on hallmark values or attributes of the men who established the bank in 1907.

R. Edward "Ed" Stewart, president of UDI Community Development Corporation, was honored with the 2011 Mechanics and Farmers Bank Founders Award.
