The N.C. Department of Transportation has begun distributing more than $147.7M in gas tax funds to local municipalities that applied to receive them. Durham will receive $6.2M which will go towards projects such as street widening, construction efforts, and bikeways, greenways or sidewalks.

Part of Miami Blvd. to be closed for six weeks
Miami Boulevard between NC 98 and US 70 will be closed fro six weeks as part of the East End Connector project - which will link Highway 70 to Highway 147 in Durham.The detour will re-route drivers using N.C. 98 and U.S. 70. Local traffic can travel along Miami Boulevard on either side of the railroad crossing in that area.

South Durham intersection to get roundabout

Construction on east end connector to begin in February
The North Carolina Department of Transportation will begin construction on the long-discussed East End Connector in Durham. The 3.9-mile highway, which is scheduled to be finished in 2019, will connect the Durham Freeway and the U.S. Highway 70/N.C. Highway 98 intersection. It will also upgrade U.S. 70 to a freeway between Pleasant Drive and N.C. 98.

Durham's East End Connector to be built
The NC state Department of Transportation will award a contract to build the East End Connector, an 8-mile small freeway that will connect interstate 85 with the Durham Freeway. The construction is estimated to cost $141 million and take 4.5 years with a completion slated for July 2019.
