School board votes on school start times

Durham County School Board voted unanimously to push back start times for most high schools from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. ending the school day at 4 p.m. Most middle schools’ days will run from 7:30 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. an elementary schools will be tiered, with schools running from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.; 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Board of Education elects Carter and Lee

On Tuesday July 7th , the Durham School Board elected  Mike Lee to serve as vice chairman and reelected Heidi Carter board chairwoman in what is expected to be her final year of service.

School board chair to seek commissioner’s seat

Durham school board Chairwoman Heidi Carter,who was first elected to the Consolidated District B seat in 2004, will seek election to the Durham County Board of Commissioners in 2016.

School board member declines to seek reelection in 2016

Leigh Bordley has confirmed, after serving on the school board since 2008, she will not seek reelection in 2016. Three of the seven seats of the board will be up for election in the 2016 school board election.
