Durham Tech names new Special Assistant for Equity and Inclusion

Angela Davis, a longtime workforce development leader, will be Durham Tech's Special Assistant for Equity and Inclusion. This is a new position designed to ensure that policies, procedures, and practices are consistent with the college’s Strategic Plan for a welcoming, engaging, understanding, and unifying institution for the community.

Durham Public Schools will offer a fire acadamy in the 2016-17 school year

Durham Public Schools will offer a fire academy, for high school students who want to become firefighters, starting in the 2016-17 school year. The program is a partnership among the schools, the Fire Department and Durham Technical Community College and approved by the state Department of Public Instruction.

Engineering, fine arts programs coming to Durham Tech

The N.C. State Board of Community Colleges has approved Durham Tech’s request to offer the associate in engineering degree program this fall allowing Durham Tech to be among the first community colleges in the state to offer the new program.

GoPass Now Available to Durham Tech Students

More than 500 Durham Tech students have picked up a GoPass in the first week of its distribution. GoPass is a free bus pass from Triangle Transit that allows eligible Durham Tech students to ride city and regional buses via Triangle Transit to get to and from the college.

Durham Tech to Collaborate with NC Wesleyan College


NC Wesleyan College President James Gray III and Durham Tech Community College President Bill Ingram will meet at Durham Tech Jan. 3 to sign a memorandum of understanding that will formalize a transfer partnership between the two schools.The purpose of this transfer partnership is to promote completion of both the associate’s degree at Durham Tech and the baccalaureate degree at Wesleyan.

Durham Tech Receives $100K PRESS Grant

Durham Technical Community College received a $100,000 PRESS for Completion grant from the Walmart Foundation designed to help keep students in school and eventually, to graduate. Durham Tech was one of just 15 community colleges in the nation to receive the grant.

MaryAnn Black, a former member of the Durham Board of County Commissioners, has been elected the new chair of the Board of Trustees of Durham Technical Community College. John Burness, a former administrator at Duke University, will serve as vice chair of the Durham Tech board.
