RDU announced new restaurants for Terminal 2

RDU Airport announced the opening of four restaurants in terminal two. Starbucks, which will be the airport’s fifth location, at Gate D-14, the Tap Room, featuring a full bar and pub fare, at Gate D-15, Dale Jr.’s Whisky River, a full-service restaurant featuring a stage for live music, at Gate D-14 and Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen at Gate D-15. Two will open this fall and two will open in the fall of 2017.

RDU begins a massive five year improvements project

RDU will begin a massive, five year project, starting with paving the Economy 3 lot . The 3,820-space lot will be resurfaced in three sections, starting with 1,561 spots this week. In January, the airport will begin the portion of the project aimed squarely at its garage complex, its Premier and Central lots. The projects include concrete repair, waterproofing additions, canopy maintenance, elevator and moving sidewalk replacements, signage improvements, and more. The total cost of the project will be around $25 million dollars.

RDU released record traveler numbers for May 2016

RDU reported their highest ever number of enplanements for the month of May 2016. More than 500,000 travelers boarded commercial flights in May 2016, a 15.3 percent growth over May 2015.May was also the airport’s 27th consecutive month of year-over-year growth. And, Airline Weekly this week named RDU the 10th fastest growing airport in the U.S.

RDU announces a new non-stop flight to LaGuardia Airport

RDU announced United Airlines will offer a non-stop flight to LaGuardia Airport. The flight will be a two-class service aboard an E170 aircraft, operating six days per week starting Oct. 30. With this addition, RDU will have three carriers serving LaGuardia. American and Delta already offer flights.

Delta adds another new flight

Delta is adding three daily, year-round flights between RDU and Newark Liberty International Airport, starting Nov. 6. The flights will be operated by GoJet Airlines, a Delta Connection carrier, using two-class 65-seat CRJ-700 jets.

RDU reports increased daily departures in March

RDU reported an average daily departure count increase of nearly 8 percent for the month of March. Daily departures increased to 191, a 7.8 percent uptick from the 177 reported in March of 2015, according to the latest report on year-over-year figures.

Delta adds direct flight to Washington National

Starting August 1, Delta will be flying a new non-stop route out of RDU: To Washington, D.C.'s Reagan National Airport.Delta announced their goal is to be the number one carrier in the Triangle market.

Demolition begins at RDU's Terminal 1

Demolition has officially begun on Terminal 1 at RDU.What the site will become is unclear, due to the in-development Vision2040 Master Planning project currently being developed by airport administrators. What is known is that the sites will be landscaped in March of 2017 to "provide sweeping new views of the airfield."

RDU implements new parking operations effective April 4

RDU will now have three parking options to choose from; ParkRDU Premier includes 1,000 spaces on the ground level of the main parking garage between terminals one and two, ParkRDU Central offers 10,000 spots within walking distance to both terminals, and ParkRDU Economy which offers a park and ride service. ParkRDU Premier will cost you $3/hour and $18/day. ParkRDU Central runs $2/hour and $14/day and  ParkRDU Economy, the former Park and Ride, is $1/hour and $6-$7/day. Starting May 1st you can save on all of those prices by booking online, saving anywhere from 2 to 7 dollars. The new operations go into effect April 4.

Delta to renovate RDU Sky Club

The Delta Sky Club at RDU, will unveil their upgraded space and amenities around September, four months after the Paris flights begin. Upgrades include a new full bar and two new food service stands.

Frontier Airlines adds seasonal, nonstop service between RDU and Atlanta, Orlando, and Philadelphia

Frontier Airlines is adding seasonal nonstop service between RDU and Atlanta, Orlando and Philadelphia, with introductory fares of $39 (new Frontier fare will be $59). Service to Philadelphia and Orlando starts April 14 with service to Atlanta starting April 15. Orlando and Philadelphia flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays while flights to Atlanta will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Uber & Lyft drivers now approved to service RDU passengers

The Raleigh-Durham International Airport now allows Uber and Lyft drivers to drop off and pick up their fares in pre-arranged services zones of the commercial curb in front of both terminals. Individual drivers are no longer required to register individually with the Airport Authority and will instead, display a 7×7-inch company identification sticker, such as the Uber “U,” on the passenger side of the front windshield.

American Airlines offers new seasonal flights to Cancun from RDU

American Airlines has confirmed it is preparing to begin weekly service between RDU and Cancun, starting March 5. Flights will leave RDU each Saturday at 7:05 a.m. Return flights will also be on Saturdays and will leave Cancun International Airport at 10:25 a.m.

RDU to Seattle daily non-stop flights begin today

Alaska Airlines began offering non-stop flights from RDU to Seattle today, October 1, 2015.The outbound flight from RDU to Seattle leaves at 5:50 p.m. and arrives at Seattle at 9 p.m. The inbound flight from Seattle leaves Sea-Tac airport at 8:40 a.m.; it arrives at RDU at 4:50 p.m.

Delta to offer direct flight from RDU to Paris

Delta Air Lines will offer daily, nonstop flights to Paris from Raleigh-Durham International Airport beginning May 12, 2016. The flight will depart Paris at 10:45 a.m. and arrive at RDU at 2 p.m. A 6:15 p.m. departure from RDU will arrive in Paris at 8:35 a.m. the following day. Read more here.
