Pastor Shirley Ceasar has been recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Caesar’s is the 2,583rd star on the Walk of Fame. She is celebrating 50 years as a recording artist and has garnered 11 Grammy Awards throughout her career.

Duke Professor Receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Genetics
Thomas Petes, a professor of molecular genetics and microbiology at Duke University, has been named the 2013 recipient of the Thomas Hunt Morgan Medal for lifetime achievement in the field of genetics. Petes specializes in the study of yeast as a model for understanding genomic instability and chromosomal abnormalities commonly found in cancer cells.

Durham Man Named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list
Josh Sommer of the Chordoma Foundation, a cancer research foundation in Durham has made Forbes magazine’s annual “30 Under 30” list, a who’s-who of the nation’s top young entrepreneurs and executives. Forbes chose Sommer, 24, as its top winner in its “science and healthcare” category.

Durham Businesses Win 2012 Triangle Green Business Challenge
The Triangle J Council of Governments recently named award winners for the 2012 Triangle Green Business Challenge. Awards were presented to three Durham businesses; Ninth Street Bakery, Self-Help Credit Union and BioCryst Pharmaceuticals. Twenty-one companies and organizations participated in the challenge to help businesses improve the efficiency and sustainability of their day-to-day operations.

Triangle Business Names Area's Healthiest Employers
Triangle Business Journal on Wednesday unveiled the winners of its second annual Healthiest Employers of the Triangle awards. Several Durham businesses were winners, including Alston & Bird LLP, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of North Carolina, Coastal Federal Credit Union, Durham Regional Hospital and Williams Mullen.

Fuchs Inducted as Fellow into American Academy of Nursing
Mary Ann Fuchs, Vice President of Patient care and Chief Nurse Executive at Duke University Health System, has been officially inducted as a fellow into the American Academy of Nursing. Induction as a fellow is one of the highest honors a nurse can receive, and it is bestowed upon nursing leaders at the academy’s invitation.
